What Will Be Taught? In our reading tutoring sessions, we focus on building foundational skills that will help your child become a confident and independent reader. We will teach them how to sound out words, understand stories, and enjoy reading. The key skills we’ll work on include phonics (connecting letters to sounds), decoding (sounding out words), vocabulary (understanding new words), and reading comprehension (making sense of what they read). What Topics Will You Cover? Throughout the sessions, we will cover: Phonemic Awareness: Identifying and manipulating sounds in words. Phonics: Learning letter-sound connections to decode words. Fluency: Practicing reading smoothly and confidently. Vocabulary: Building word knowledge to improve understanding. Comprehension: Understanding the meaning of texts. How is Your Class Structured? Each session will be structured with a balance of direct instruction and interactive practice. We will start with a quick review of previous lessons, then dive into a new skill or concept. The class will end with an activity that reinforces what we learned, making sure students get plenty of chances to practice and ask questions. How Will You Teach? I use a variety of teaching methods to keep the lessons engaging. I will provide clear, step-by-step explanations and examples. Students will get hands-on practice through activities like reading aloud, matching sounds to letters, and discussing what they’ve read. Each lesson will include plenty of opportunities for practice and feedback, and I’ll adjust the pace based on your child's progress. What's Your Teaching Style? My teaching style is patient, supportive, and interactive. I focus on creating a positive, encouraging environment where your child feels comfortable asking questions and trying new things. I believe in making learning fun, so I incorporate games and hands-on activities to keep students engaged and excited about reading. How Much Will Learners Get to Interact with You? Students will have plenty of chances to interact with me during each session. They’ll participate in discussions, practice reading aloud, and play educational games. I’ll use slides and videos to explain concepts and provide visual aids, making sure that the lessons are clear and easy to follow. Each session will be full of opportunities for your child to ask questions, share their thoughts, and practice new skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Learning Goals
Foster a Love for Reading: Through engaging and interactive lessons, students will develop a positive attitude toward reading and feel motivated to read more on their own.
Increase Confidence in Reading: Students will gain confidence in their ability to read independently, speak about what they’ve read, and apply strategies to decode and understand texts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have extensive experience working with children and teaching reading. With a background in special education, I have spent years helping students of all abilities build essential reading skills, and I’ve seen firsthand how effective, personalized instruction can make a difference in a child's learning journey.
I hold a Doctorate in Special Education, and throughout my career, I’ve focused on developing evidence-based strategies for teaching literacy. I’ve also had the privilege of working with children from various backgrounds, including those with learning challenges, to help them strengthen their reading abilities.
I’ve taught reading in one-on-one tutoring settings, as well as in classroom environments, where I provided direct instruction in phonics, reading fluency, and comprehension. I’ve also designed and led workshops for educators and parents on how to best support children's reading development at home and in school. My approach to reading instruction is rooted in the Science of Reading, which is a research-backed method that focuses on how the brain learns to read and how we can use that knowledge to teach effectively.
Over the years, I have worked with elementary-aged children in various settings, including:
Tutoring centers, where I provided individualized reading support for students struggling with reading.
Classroom settings, where I supported students with moderate to severe disabilities in developing literacy skills.
After-school programs and summer camps, where I implemented reading intervention programs to help students who needed extra help outside of school hours.
In addition, I have worked with parents and teachers, helping them understand how to support children's reading at home, using techniques that make learning engaging and fun. My goal is always to create a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel confident and excited about improving their reading skills.
