US Grade 4 - 7
I will present all the same content contained in my ongoing course on reading comprehension, however, I will be able to fully engage with a students one-on-one and not move on from a concept until they "get it". I can also tailor the lessons to their exact reading level. I am happy to do a novel study/1-on-1 book club as part of the class (from a list of books that I have lessons ready for). This is completely optional, so let me know if you would like me to incorperate it into the class....
After students complete these lessons they will be better equipped to apply the following to their reading: • Analyze relationships within passages, including how people, events, and ideas are connected • Put events in order • Make inferences or draw conclusions about plots, sequence of events, characters, settings, and ideas in passages • Determine the relationship between ideas • Analyze how details develop the main idea • Identify the author's point of view and purpose • Determine how the author explains a position and responds to different viewpoints • Infer the author's purpose in the passage when it is not stated
I have a B.A. in Literature (and credential to teach high school English) and have taught many English classes as part of the faculty at a community college. I have tutored learners one-one-one ranging from grade 4 through adults working on their GED.
