Class

Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(142)
Each week learners will be set a topic or question to prepare ideas to speak on, then be coached on how to improve their Public Speaking delivery and questioned to create more depth.

Class experience

Learners will develop their public speaking and/or their confidence in it by preparing ideas (or a speech) on a weekly topic or question and then being coached on the best way to deliver those ideas.
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching English and Drama (and some Music, and PSHCE) to 11 to 16 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence-building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.

I am very experienced in coaching learners to produce their best, and I love seeing them develop in front of my eyes. Many of my ex-students have gone on to study at prestigious London stage schools in acting and directing, even though we are over 200 miles away, and they only take a small number from out of the catchment area each year. I have also coached learners on all different levels, like one who didn't wish to speak when I started working with him (aged 10) but he ended up playing the lead role in his final year production (aged 15).

Homework Offered
Please note that this is a flipped learning class, with the idea that learners will prepare some ideas for homework independently each week to get the best out of each class.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Learners will get the most out of this class by taking time to do the homework to prepare their own ideas (or speech) on the topic/question each week. Please encourage this independent work to take place, in order that your learner arrives to class prepared.

Please note this is not an English language learning class. This class is for native speakers or ESL/EFL/EAL speakers who already have a good grasp of English, but need practice/ or get nervous to actually speak it, need support developing their speaking in real-life terms, or need to prepare for potential interviews with a native, clearly spoken, very patient, friendly speaker.
