Class experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Welcome to our 1-on-1 tutoring sessions for Language Arts and Writing students in grades 5 - 12. In these 1-on-1 sessions, we offer supplemental ELA instruction, whether your student needs to improve their reading comprehension, grammar, or writing. In this class, students will go over any work or concepts with a skilled tutor who will assess their current knowledge, identify areas for improvement, and provide instruction in order to help students improve their understanding of the English...
Students will gain a deeper understanding of fundamental grammar concepts, improve their reading comprehension skills, and work on improving their writing. Students will get caught up with any assignments or requirements they may have and work towards mastery of these concepts.
Ralston has been teaching students in all levels of ELA since 2011. He has worked with students from elementary school to graduate school levels and is well-versed in the grammar and structure of the language as well as essential reading and writing skills students need to know. Whether your aim is to brush up on concepts, improve grades, or prepare for a standardized test, Ralston has helped students at all levels understand the English language.
Homework Offered
After 1-on-1 sessions, I will assign homework related to the concepts covered within class. The aim of this is to reinforce the knowledge and get more practice putting together the skills and strategies we reviewed. This type of homework will include an answer key or notes and possibly answer explanations. Student should complete assigned work and check it themselves in an attempt to understand the content on their own but then should come back to sessions with any further questions they may have. This will provide the most efficient use of their time within sessions.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Teacher will continually assess the student throughout 1-on-1 sessions. This may take the form of a formal, proctored assessment such as a quiz or exam or more informal evaluation throughout sessions. This is not a requirement but may be necessary to identify any gaps in knowledge or areas for improvement, especially when it comes to test prep.Grades Offered
Students should be prepared with any necessary supplies to complete work from class. This will likely include a notebook and/or pen and paper, computer, books, or other material.
If working on reading comprehension skills, students will be exposed to a diverse array of articles, passages, and otherwise in order to help them better understand how to identify key details, motives, and more within reading. Some of this content may involve political topics or current events.
