Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 8
Intermediate Level
Discover the magical world of Harry Potter in this 5 week class by reading "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and discussing the reading. Each class the learner will come prepared to class by having read the weeks chapters. I will have discussion questions for the learner to encourage them to talk about the reading as well as check for comprehension. The learner is free to ask their questions about the reading. We will also discuss character development and plot development. This class is for the learner who is reading this for the first time and for a fan that want to discuss the book with another fan.

Here is a weekly break down

Week 1: Read chapters 1-4 and discuss the world he is growing up in and the new world he is about to become a part of. We will also discuss his relationship with the Dursleys.

Week 2: Read chapters 5-8 and discuss Harry's travel to Hogwarts and his new friends. We will also discuss the professors and the role they play in Harry's life.

Week 3: Read chapters 9-11 and discuss Halloween and the game of quidditch. We will discuss how Harry's new school is different than his old school.

Week 4: Read chapters 12-14 and discuss magical items and creatures in the book.

Week 5: Read chapters 15-17 and watch "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". We will discuss the differences in the film verses the book and they might have made the changes in the movie. We will also discuss how everything Harry learned in the school year comes to help him in the end of the book.

Thank you for taking a look at my class. Please let me know if you have any questions.
