Solo techniques, Chords, picking techniques, scales, songs/tunes, and much more! My teaching philosophy is based on fundamentals that will apply to any genre, but catering those fundamentals to each student's personal goals, skill level, and learning style. I encourage all of my students to share their personal inspirations and musical heroes. This makes them feel more ownership over their learning, but also allows me to cater our lesson material to help them feel like they're making...
Mapping out the fretboard, picking technique, scale knowledge, chord shapes, ear training, chord progressions, and much much more.
I assign a list of concepts to practice every week, which we review at the beginning of each lesson to assure the learner is ready to move on to a new concept, or needs more practice before moving on to a new thing. We keep a running list so the learner can go back and review as needed. I will send PDF documents with chord diagrams, scale fingerings, and more. I also often send short videos demonstrating the practice notes, just to make sure everything is clearly communicated. The parents receive a copy of these as well.
Guitar, amp (if electric guitar), and a playback device for playing along with songs/metronomes. I also encourage keeping a folder (digital or physical) with our lesson notes and handouts.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I asses each learner at the beginning of the lesson. We go through each item on our list to ensure they are understanding and making progress.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
