Beginner Level
1-on-1 tutoring sessions start with an initial informal assessment which allows me to adapt and adjust instruction to meet students' individual needs and target their interest. The purpose of these sessions is to be able to make learning meaningful, allowing students to meet academic goals while building their confidence in reading. What will be taught? Instruction will be personalized to meet each student's needs. Skills taught will consist of: initial/final phoneme isolation, blending phonemes, segmenting into phonemes, alphabet knowledge (letter/sound recognition), phoneme-grapheme connection, high frequency words, letter formation (handwriting), sentence writing, decoding unknown words, rhyming; etc. Class Structure: Class will consist of both direct and indirect instruction. Instruction will include drill, lecture, games, flash cards, graphic organizers, student-centered discussions; etc. Each student learns uniquely; therefore, classroom structure will depend on students personal learning style. I will adapt my instruction to best meet their needs! Teaching style: I have experience teaching students of a variety of grade levels and backgrounds. I have over eight years of teaching experience in lower elementary, majority of those years being spent in kindergarten. I have taught general education, as well as in the inclusion setting.
