Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In order to best serve your learner and to tailor instruction to each learners' specific needs, please send a message to the teacher and receive approval before enrolling in this class.

Classes will be cancelled by the teacher if a student is enrolled without teacher approval. Struggling readers can get frustrated easily, and my goal is to minimize frustration so we can focus on learning!

Classes will be scheduled on the hour only.
I REQUIRE scheduling at least twice a week in order to see progress. I will not be able to provide tutoring only once a week.

The first class is a phonemic awareness and reading inventory for the purpose of curriculum placement. After the initial assessment, a customized learning plan is developed to close gaps in phonics skills.

Students must know the sounds of all or most consonants and be able to drag and drop items on a virtual whiteboard with the mouse to enroll in this class.
Students MUST have the camera on the entire lesson and be able to participate using the microphone.
A headset with a microphone is suggested for this class, as laptop microphones sometimes can't pick up certain letter sounds.
A computer with mouse is required because ipads and tablets do not work very well with online games.

As a mom to a teen with Dyslexia and homeschool parent, I know how hard it is to find a perfect fit for our struggling readers that will build their confidence and encourage personal growth. If your student is still learning to recognize letters or has specific needs or interests, let me know!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Phonics lessons will take place on Barton Tiles on BoomCards, Whizzimo, Barton approved PDFs, or decodable readers. Brain breaks, in the form of reading games, will be on quizlet, wordwall, bartongames, Hearbuilder, or Pixton. Selected and reviewed read aloud picture books will be on Kindle Reader for a reward at the end of our session. A Hearbuilder login may be provided to parents for at home practice if phonemic awareness and auditory memory issues indicate it might be useful.
Supply List
A whiteboard and dry erase marker are required for this class, and they will be used daily. A cheap dry erase board from Dollar Tree is sufficient for this class.
