Beginner - Intermediate Level
In these 1 on 1 music theory classes, students will learn multiple basic foundations of music and will learn the historic and cultural significance that makes music what it is today. Through activities, written and listening exercises, students will have the knowledge to write the Level 5 Theory Royal Conservatory of Music exam if they so wish to and become accredited through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Learning Goals
Students will embark on a journey and be able to confidently display an understanding of the building blocks of music and improve their skill through analysis.

over 8 WeeksLesson 1:
Pitch and Notation
Learners will learn about Notes and Clefs, Half steps, whole steps, and Accidentals, Transposition. This lesson will cover the basic foundations for basic music notation and explore repertoire "Staccato Prelude" by Samuel Maykapar

Lesson 2:
Rhythm
Learners will learn about note and rest values, ties, triplets, time signatures and be able to build an understanding for the value of rhythm in music. This lesson will also explore "Wild Mignonette" by Cornelius Gurlitt and "March of the Tin Soldiers" by Genari Karganov.

Lesson 3:
Scales and Key Signatures
Learners will continue to develop their musical knowledge and learn about Major Scales, Key signatures, minor scale, parallel keys and will explore "Allegretto" by Fernando Sor and "Etude" by Henry Lemoine.

Lesson 4:
Melody Writing and Composition
Learners will continue to apply previous note concepts and learn the basic elements of melodies and how to compose their own melodies.
