1 on 1 Graphic Logo Design Class 1: GIMP (a free Photoshop Alternative) 10-15yo

After all introductions are done, your learner will participate in a conversation surrounding any experience they have already had editing photos and why it is still important as a life skill.

First, I will check with all of the students and confirm that they all have successfully downloaded and installed GIMP.

After everyone is setup and running with GIMP, I will share my screen with the program running and go over importing an image and the basic features. Students will learn how to import their first image and then, use some of the basic editing tools including cropping, cutting, adding text, and adding and working with layers.

The learners will then be given a picture challenge activity where they will get an image before and after and will have to look at the after image and figure out how to change the original photo to match the after image. Finally, learners will have to explain exactly what they did to get their final result and I will check for any mistakes and help fill in any knowledge gaps.

Towards the end of the class, the student will be given an additional opportunity to see some of the other more advanced features of GIMP so they can decide if they want to learn more in another class.

My teaching style is hands on. This means we learn by interacting and practicing editing images with the GIMP tools and features.

Learners will get to interact with me several structured times during the class and then as needed when they have questions.
