Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner - Advanced Level
During the 1-on-1 tutoring session,  students will be learning kindergarten, 1st grade, 2ns grade, and 3rd grade common core math standards. 


***Please note that I meet every student where they are at. I will personalize each lesson to meet their needs. Therefore, I will not always follow the schedule below. But, I will make sure your child meets all the common core standards!*****

-During each class I will evaluate and take parent input on what your child needs to work on. Each class is personalized to meet your child's needs. I also enjoy seeing what your child is working on in school-- if applicable. I love communicating with parents to help my students to grow and learn. 

I will work on the following math skills with students-- I also can work on other skills, if the student needs them!

Kindergarten Skills:
-Representing and comparing whole numbers.
-Describing shapes-- both 2D and 3D, to describe the world around them. 
-Comparing 2D and 3D shapes.
-Writing and use of numbers to represent quantities and solve addition and subtraction problems using objects and other strategies. Focusing on numbers 1-20.
-Counting from 1-100 by ones and tens.
-Work on understanding the functions of addition and subtraction.
-Build the foundations of place value by working on the numbers 11-19.
-Use of measurable attributes of objects, i.e. weight, length, height.
-I always work on common core math standards for students and also will work on topics, when communicated, that students are working on in their school classroom. 

First Grade Skills:
-Developing an understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20.
-Representing and solving word/ real-world problems involving addition and subtraction.
-Understanding the properties of both addition and subtraction-- including addition and subtraction vocabulary.
-Developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value: including grouping tens and ones.
-Using place value to understand operations of addition and subtraction with double-digit math.
-Developing understanding of linear measurement and measuring/comparing lengths.
-Reasoning about attributes of, and composing and decomposing geometric shapes.
-Writing and telling time to the nearest hour and half-hour.
- Work with money: Learning the name and value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.
-Counting up to 120 by 1s, 5s, and 10s.
-I always work on common core math standards for students and also will work on topics, when communicated, that students are working on in their school classroom. 

Second Grade Skills:
-Extending understanding of base-ten notation.
-Building fluency with addition and subtraction.
-Add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship of addition and subtraction.
-Solve and represent word problems using addition and subtraction within 100. Also, working on 2-step story problems.
-Working on the foundations for multiplication with rectangular arrays, skip counting, and even and odd numbers.
-Understanding place value with three digits of a three-digit number that represents hundreds, tens, and ones.
-Skip count up to 1,000 by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
-Using standard units of measure.
-Describing and analyzing shapes.
-Tell time on analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minutes. 
-Solve real world problems about money using dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies with using of both the $ and ¢ appropriately.
-Analyze and create graphs.
-I always work on common core math standards for students and also will work on topics, when communicated, that students are working on in their school classroom. 

Third Grade Skills:
-Represent and solve problems involving multiplication and division.
-Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division.
-Multiply and divide within 100.
-Solve problems involving four operations, and identify and explain patterns in arithmetic.
-Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.
-Develop understanding of fractions as numbers.
-Solve problems involving measurement and estimation.
-Relate addition and subtraction to length.
-Geometric measurement: understand the concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition.
-Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter.
-Reason with shapes and their attributes.
-I always work on common core math standards for students and also will work on topics, when communicated, that students are working on in their school classroom. 


Each tutoring session will be based on each student's needs. Therefore, I will differentiate and personalize each session for each student. Please let me know what math skills your child is GREAT at and what he or she needs to work on!

Students should be ready to learn Kindergarten  math. They should be able to count and have some math concepts and be ready to learn about the concepts listed above.
