Class Experience

We'll work on improv and making up jokes on the spot. If you're interested in mostly stand up comedy, we can garner it to your needs. We use improv either way! Below is the standard outline for strengthening our comedic muscles:

Week 1: YES-AND. Trust, listening, and turning mistakes into magic!
 - This week we will learn the basic building blocks of improv, where we take the risk of saying an idea and learning to support those ideas fully. Once those ideas come to life, we're able to believe in our ability to make choices.

Week 2: Continuing The Power of YES-AND
-We'll continue practicing saying yes to ideas, both other's and our own. Surprise yourself by going on imagined adventures and seeing what you discover by saying YES-AND!

Week 3:Make Each Other Look Good. Teamwork, agreement, and relationships.
- This week will be about making silly characters and have them be important to the stories we tell. It's where your inner weirdo gets fully supported, and use those same tools to support your partners making it all up too! We'll change our voices, faces, and emotions.

Week 4: Basic Scenework. Who, what, where.
- We'll start learning how to construct a story with the three main tools: Who (who the characters are/relationships) , What (their activity) and Where (their location.) Once those are set, an improvised story can unfold!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have 17 years experience performing improv comedy, and I teach it to students of all ages. I have performed on every stage in LA, even with members of Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, and more! The most valuable part of improv is the skill of learning to believe in yourself, which is much easier said than done. My goal as a teacher is to help ignite that belief in all my students, because their voices and ideas matter, especially in the art form where you can do anything.
