Description

Class Experience

Materials and subject matter depends on the desired focus of the student. I teach realistic and creative drawing skills, Photoshop, painting, comics and cartooning / anime, and sculpting with clay. Parent and student will choose the style and medium for lessons. 

During instruction, I will create along with your learner so they can pick up little artist's tricks from me on-screen. For drawing and sculpting, I use a second camera; two screens show best if your learner is using a laptop,...

Learning about art will happen at the student's pace.

I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and am a former public school art teacher. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. There's a special place in my heart for creative works and the artists that make them, especially fantasy stories and narrative artworks, comics and graphic novels.

Homework may vary based on the scope of the student's choice of project.

Students must have a pencil and paper and a good eraser for every class. Other materials will vary based on the students interests and parent request.

If you are a digital art student looking to work in Photoshop or a similar program, please download any photos you need for your collage or editing before the start of class.

40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

Depending on the student's topic of choice, we may look up pictures and other source material. I will curate my searches while we do our art research and only show the best (and safe) pictures.
