Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework assignments are available to families who desire them. I can offer 1-2 assignments per week amounting to up to 1-2 hours total, depending on how long it takes the student to complete them. Families also have the option of no homework, so the student works on all assignments in class.Assignments
We will work on various assignments and projects in class. Students usually print out 3-5 sheets or otherwise receive pre-created assignments they'll work on in-session. The number of assignments will vary depending on student needs. The assignments may stem from the homework or build on homework, as applicable.Assessment
Upon request, I am able to provide formal, written assessments (PDF) for students at the beginning of our sessions and at the end of our sessions. It is customary for me to provide initial feedback through Outschool after the first session and supplementary Class Notes after each session. Parents will know where learners stand.Certificate of Completion
Upon request, I will provide the learner with a certificate of completion. Long-term students may receive an automatic Certificate of Completion for their progress.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
Work with an experienced tutor and certified writing instructor! My one-on-one tutoring sessions are personalized, supportive, and positive. I am a caring, attentive, inclusive teacher who will take the time to discuss and evaluate the specific needs of your child. All students are welcome! I tutor students with developmental delays, speech delays, and students who learn English as a Second Language (ESL). I work with US students and international learners. I am also an experienced tutor to advanced students, homeschoolers, and gifted students. ----- How This 1-on-1 Class Works: My goal is to make your child's learning and skill-building as fun, relaxed, and personalized as possible. I will use the first class to evaluate your child's skills and discuss your family's learning goals. The "evaluation" consists of a relaxed discussion with your child and some fun writing practice through worksheets or verbal exercises that I will provide you and your child prior to the first class. I will use that information to create a learning plan for your child. We will do writing exercises, verbal exercises, and/or worksheets in each class. I will provide you with any applicable worksheet or writing prompt materials before each class. You may attend for as short or as long as you like. Some students like to keep their tutoring sessions to the class, while others desire homework. Let's talk about what you prefer as a family. ----- Topics Covered: The specific topics will depend on your child, but may include handwriting practice, verbal communication practice, combining drawing/dictating/writing, writing simple narratives, writing opinions about a topic or text, practicing writing expository texts, improving writing by revisiting and editing, participating in research to gather information, creating personal or fictional narratives, presenting written information orally, and more. ----- Class Structure: It's like a one-on-one tutoring session, where we use worksheets, exercises, a white board, or fun writing prompts to strengthen skills. I incorporate social discussion regarding writing and using our imagination creatively to write pieces. Sometimes I will incorporate audio or music (nature sounds, classical music) and visuals ("take a look at this picture of a beach before we write today...") to enhance the class and create a fun summer theme. This class is focused on your child! ------ My Teaching Style: I am warm, friendly, and interactive. I have a cheerful disposition and like to have fun! My teaching style is ultimately tailored to your child. I follow the state of Florida's ELA standards. I am 100% collaborative with parents and students, so if there is something you think your child needs to improve on, please let me know. I want to ensure that we are strengthening any critical areas while addressing the typical English Language Arts and writing standards for this age level. ----- How I Interact: I will send messages to parents through the app, provide attachments to print or setup for your child, I will engage in active discussion with your child throughout the class, and I will offer visuals and audio as they enhance the class and where appropriate. Fun worksheets, verbal exercises, and ELA/writing games are also part of this one-on-one course. Please inquire if you have any questions!
