Class Experience

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away...Imagine yourself as a Jedi character. Wield a lightsaber as you defend the galaxy! Use the Force to focus on each pencil stroke in this directed drawing beginner art class. Challenge yourself to build your Jedi art skills.

Drawing is fun AND trains our brain to think clearly.
Drawing makes us slow down, be patient, and pay attention!
Sound familiar? It's like a real Jedi using the force to focus! Our brain is amazing!

Does this sound like skills that will be useful to be successful in life? You bet!
And you thought this was just a fun art class!
Instead, it is a REAL-LIFE CHALLENGE to build skills for success.

FOR PARENTS:
Did you know that drawing and coloring activates the brain to learn and understand?
It creates new neural pathways that helps us better retain an idea or encode information.
Our fingers and hands have the most of the nerve endings and muscles of our bodies.
Controlling all that fine motor movement makes our brain work hard!

Our brain is challenged as it coordinates visualization, imagination, and movement.
CHALLENGES make us stronger. Even when we make mistakes, our brains strengthen other
neural pathways to creatively problem solve. As part of the artistic process, our drawings
can even turn out better than we expected! As a bonus, the brain also releases dopamine as we draw. It relaxes our body and rewards us to be motivated to finish what we started. We WANT to find out how our finished artwork will turn out!
Learning Goals
•	Challenge yourself to build your Jedi art skills
•	Learn from your mistakes
•	Be persistent
•	Be creative
•	Build community with other kids your age
•	Laugh and have fun!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
• Remind your child ahead of class that we learn from our mistakes! Challenges help you become stronger. • Often, kids get discouraged when they make a mistake in art. Knowing where to start on a blank paper or having line in the wrong place can seem overwhelming. Some kids feel the urge to crumple up their artwork and give up! This course asks for at least 5 pieces of paper so kids can practice their pencil sketches before committing to the final drawing. • Encourage your child to speak up if they are confused! This is a live, interactive class that can adjust to the pace of the specific group. Jedi Master Zia will give support and clarification as needed. *Safety: If your child chooses to cut out the drawing and glue onto construction paper after class, parents please help support the safe use of scissors. Thank you for encouraging your budding artist!
