Class Experience

US Grade 2
Advanced Level
This is an advanced class. We are so excited that you are interested in having your child participate.

Recommended for homeschoolers or as an after school supplement class.

CLASS EXPERIENCE

We cover approximately 7-10 questions per class, depending on the class and the speed at which they understand the material.

Students in this class enjoy first trying things on their own, and then the teacher and students will discuss the questions and talk about the solutions.

We will go over math questions like those from Math Kangaroo for level 1/2. This will include both puzzle questions and problem-solving questions. Students should have excellent reading skills. And while these problems do not require a lot of math skills, we do include quite a lot of CHALLENGING questions. So if your student doesn't like a challenge, we suggest they wait until they are older before taking the class and take our Singapore Math classes instead.

The class is a working session so students will have a chance to work out problems and then talk with their classmates about their solutions. This class is hands-on and students should be ready to share with the class. With a larger class, students participate by sharing their work or solutions with their classmates in break-out rooms, and then they share with the entire class.

Students should come with a desire to learn and try new things, and enjoyment of sharing their answers with their classmates. If they are a really shy child, they may get more out of listening to the answers from others and sharing their answers via chat. They should not be afraid of making mistakes and learning from them.

If they are stuck, the teacher will work out problems step by step.

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

Here are examples of the questions that are covered in this class. Students should be able to answer 2 out of 4 questions on their own to get the most out of this class.

1. How many numbers that have the digits 2, 3, and 4 are bigger than 20 but smaller than 45? The digits can be used more than once in the numbers.

2. The digits 1, 2, 5, and 6 will be placed in these spaces __ __ + __ __ so that they make the smallest possible sum.
What is that sum?

3. At a festival, there is a line in front of the lemonade stand. Tara is the 5th in line. She notices that she is also the person in the middle of the line. How many people are in line?

4. Jordan has some quarters, of which she gives half to Debbie. She gives half of what she gives to Debbie to Laurie. She then also gives half of what she gives to Laurie to Foester. Now, Foester has nothing left. How many quarters did she have to start with?

Hi! I'm so glad you are interested in our math classes for elementary through high school students.

We offer 2 different types of math classes that help students engage and learn math at a deeper and advanced level: Singapore Math Classes and Competition Math classes.

Foster your student's love for math through our Singapore Math classes using our Hello Math! Curriculum. Our signature Singapore Math approach helps students build a solid math foundation that will boost students' confidence. Our kind teachers help break down complex math topics in ways that help students to grow and succeed.

Our Competition Math classes encourages critical thinking. Students learn different ways to problem-solve challenging questions and share solutions with their classmates. Our patient teachers guide students if they get stuck. It's a class best taken in conjunction with our Singapore Math classes.
