Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
Students will engage with the teacher and other students through play, stories, drawing, dance, show and tell, and other fun learning activities. The focus of this group is to practice age appropriate learning goals and social skills as well as provide an opportunity to socialize and share with other students of the same age group.

Learner Goals: The learners will be able to practice and maintain letters A-Z and numbers 1-26. The learners will listen to/sing/look at and discuss stories, songs and pictures.
The learners will play games to practice colors, shapes; identify sizes, more or less, same/different and other age appropriate learning topics. Learner will discuss days of the week, months, seasons and weather. The learners will have an opportunity to share with the group a toy, story, artwork, pet or fact during show and tell each class. Additionally, the teacher will incorporate science, art, social, and music activities throughout certain themes.

Additional Learner Goals: When appropriate the teacher will include higher level learning skills such as adding/subtracting, writing and reading comprehension skills. Students who feel more comfortable observing & listening during class are welcome to draw and participate at his/her own pace. The teacher encourages learners to practice writing the letters, numbers and drawing the shapes along side the teacher, but understands if a learner is not ready to do so yet.

For parents: Although this is an ongoing course, it is absolutely okay to sign up for just a few classes if you cannot commit to regular weekly classes. If your student is the only one enrolled as class approaches, I do teach to one learner. Since this is an ongoing class, I know that learners will join when it is convenient for their individual schedules. Having a younger child myself, I understand that schedules can change week to week, so I am opting to offer this as an ongoing class. This way learners can pause for weeks they need to miss or come and go as needed to fit each individual learner's schedule. Please feel free to request times and I will see if I am available to make a group on the time/day requested.

(If your student is interested in a certain topic, please feel free to send me a message and I would love to create a class session with that topic).

Note: Since this class is with other younger learners, I generally will not share recordings for safety and privacy reasons. However, if it is possible based on class material, I can sometimes create at home activity sheets from my slides for learners, who may have missed class. So feel free to reach out to me if that is something that you might be interested in.

The teacher will occasionally use excerpts of story books and quick transition video clips (with author's/performer's/creator's permissions) to introduce an activity or allow the students to move/play a game. These will only be used as supporting materials to provide opportunities for social engagement/movement and will not be used for long periods of the class.
(ex. Thelearningstationmusic.com & Jackhartmann.com music videos. See sources sections for a complete list of updated video and book materials used and how to find these sources yourself.)
Learning Goals
Students will practice letters A-Z, numbers 1-26, colors, shapes, calendar, weather, seasons, discussing stories, singing songs and age appropriate social skills. They will practice these skills through game/play based activities with teacher guidance.
The teacher will incorporate other activities such as science, art, music, and higher level math, writing and reading skills when appropriate for the theme and the students' learning levels.

Other Details

Learning Needs
Many of my learners at this age need to move around. It is okay for my learners to get up and move, or play quietly during class. I will give my shy learners a choice to answer or participate, but I am okay if they choose to observe only.
Parental Guidance
If student is new to Outschool/Zoom, please be in the room or available to help student with mute/unmute buttons if needed. Otherwise minimal parental guidance should be needed. If student needs assistance, you may do so, but you will have to do so off camera to follow Outschool's policies. All students must sign in under their account and show their face upon entry for learner verification (unless they have met the verified learner requirements as set by Outschool). I cannot teach to a student if I have not visually seen the student at the start of class per Outschool's policies. Note: Since this is a class with other younger learners, I generally will not share recordings for safety and privacy reasons. However, if it is possible based on class material, I can sometimes create at home activity sheets from my slides for learners, who may have missed class. So feel free to reach out to me if that is something that you might be interested in.
Supply List
Recommended Supplies (Students may use these items for class) Paper or Whiteboard markers/pencils/crayons I will send a message prior to future classes if additional supplies are needed for a fun craft activity, but prefer to keep it simple to allow students an opportunity to work more independently and allow parents to use this 25 min class period as needed with only basic supervision needed on their part.
