Learners will create and experience art + architecture - as they learn social and emotional skills. Social and Emotional Learning is just as important as learning reading and math; they are skills that are essential for success in school, work, life. This class is taught in English.
Students will gain a foundational understanding of art and architecture through discussion and art-making. They will learn SEL competencies, and how these areas connect with art. Students will develop writing skills and their own individual creativity.
I have many years experience working as an educator. Last Summer and Fall, I did my coursework towards my certification in Special Education; the courses included topics such as SEL and social equity. I'm especially interested in working with autistic children and LGBTQ community; using art and SEL strategies. I'm presently taking further courses at National University in SEL as professional development. Two years ago, I was invited to take a professional development course called Teaching Artist Lab sponsored in part by the NEA, which focused on social equity.
