This ongoing 1-1 class is for beginner readers. It will begin with the reading of a short "Danny" story from Mary Ruth books. The students will be asked a couple of comprehension questions to check for understanding. The students will practice writing a few high frequency words from the story before offering to read the story to the class on their own while the teacher offers support with meaning, structure, and letter cues. Students will be presented with a short list of rhyming words...
This class is taught in English.
Students will be able to read and write high frequency words. Students will be able to show comprehension by answering questions about the story. Students will be able to sound out and recognize rhyming word families. Students will be able to use meaning, structure, and letter cues to read new text. Students will be able to unscramble words to form sentences that make sense.
The teacher is a certified, retired, Reading Recovery teacher. She has worked 2 years in this capacity and also 3 years as a Title 1 teacher for reading and math.
The students will be given flashcards with each story to practice the high frequency words. Directions for games will be given with the flashcards to practice words in a fun way.
Students will need 2 pencils, an eraser, and 2-3 sheets of paper for writing and drawing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There is no formal assessment.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Mary Ruth Books- the teacher has written permission to use these books for her Outschool classes.
