Class Experience

Welcome! My name is Matt and I have been teaching guitar for 6 years. I have a real passion for music, particularly electric guitar, and this is reflected in my lessons. We will have a lot of fun exploring the huge array of styles and techniques found in the guitar repertoire. Some of the topics we will cover in lessons will include…

- Chords
- Music theory
- Fretboard knowledge
- Reading Music
- Picking techniques: alternate, economy, sweep and hybrid picking.
- Finger picking (if student prefers not to use a pick)
- Repertoire (songs tailored to the students interests and tastes)

There is far more to dive into than that, but you can hopefully get a general idea of topics covered. I like to keep my lessons as relaxed as possible while still maintaining a sense of diligence towards what we are working on. Having fun while exploring the instrument ensures that you will see a good amount of progress in your playing.

I received my BMus degree from the University of Surrey (United Kingdom) in 2020, my main instrument being the electric guitar. I have experience playing rock, metal, blues, pop, etc, so there is a lot of ground we could cover there. I also play in theatre shows in and around London so we could always explore music from some big shows which is always interesting.

Looking forward to seeing you in my lessons!

Supply List
- Guitar (Acoustic or electric - amp required for electric)
- Guitar plectrum if students wishes
- Tuner
- metronome (although you can just download one on tablet or use a browser based metronome)
- books/songs and other materials will be discussed in class and are tailored to each student. Quite often I use a program called soundslice and provide material for my students on there, as it allows them to practice easily at home with backing tracks.
