Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 9
Beginner - Advanced Level
In these 1-1 sessions, I will meet with students studying 5th-9th grade math, Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 and cover any topic they would like help with. If a student wants to cover a specific topic we will work on that, or if they'd like to brush up on skills they're already strong in, we can cover those skills. I use a variety of methods while teaching, but in a 1-1 session, I will work with students using direct teaching, interactive activities, and guided learning where students will demonstrate their understanding by working through problems with me. I have 13 years experience teaching math to students in the upper elementary and middle grades. Example possible topics for Pre-Alg/Algebra could include: Variables/Substitution and Evaluating Expressions Combining Like Terms Equivalent Expressions and Division by Zero Linear Equations with Variables on Both Sides Linear Equations with Parentheses Solutions of Lin. Equations and Equations w/ Unknown Coefficients Multi-Step Inequalities Compound Inequalities Two-Variable Linear Equations Slope Horizontal and Vertical Lines X and Y Intercepts Slope-Intercept Form Graphing Slope-Intercept Equations Writing Slope-Intercept Equations Point-Slope Form Standard Form Intro to Systems of Equations Solving Systems with Substitution and Elimination Number of Solutions to Systems/Graphing Equivalent Systems of Equations Graphing Two-Variable Inequalities Functions Intro Using Functions Exponent Properties Review Radicals Simplifying Square Roots Exponential vs. Linear Growth Exponential Expressions Graphs of Exponential Growth Exponential Growth and Decay Exponential Functions from Tables and Graphs Multiplying Monomials by Polynomials Multiplying Binomials Special Products of Binomials Factoring/Factoring Quadratics Intro Factoring Quadratics by Grouping Factoring Quadratics with Difference of Squares Factoring Quadratics with Perfect Squares Parabolas Solving/Graphing with Factored Form Solving by Taking the Square Root and Vertex From Solving Quadratics by Factoring/The Quadratic Formula Completing the Square Intro to Irrational Numbers
