2-4 hours per week. Students will have a specific practice goal to reach each week, decided by student and teacher collaboratively. The most important skill a beginning musician can develop is building a true habit around practice. You Be You takes the approach that we should first create the muscle memory/habit of daily practice, even for just 5 minutes a day, and then extend the expected practice time to longer sessions as students gain musical autonomy.Assessment

This 1:1 guitar class is taught by professional touring musician, Kaston Guffey. This is the perfect starting point for a beginning guitarist with a range of musical interests. Following You Be You's comprehensive model for music learning, our 1-1 Guitar Lessons will provide students with a strong and inspired musical foundation, from technique, to sight-reading, to strumming and singing, and even writing their own songs if they desire! Each week, students will enjoy a blend of technique and repertoire, building on the previous week. Since this class is so highly individualized, please see the weekly structure below as an outline. Depending on a student's age, musical intuition, and developmental stage, these topics are subject to change. Week 1 / Topic 1: Student assessment (get to know you / goal setting / favorite music), Lesson 1: Notes on the First String Week 2 / Topic 2: Review Lesson 1 Notes on the First String Week 3 / Topic 3: Lesson 2: Notes on the 2nd String / begin student-selected piece Week 4 / Topic 4: Review Lesson 2 Notes on the 2nd string / continue student-selected piece

This class uses Youtube as a 3rd party resource for sharing music recordings to enhance students' practice.
Your child's instructor will only ever send age-appropriate materials that meet both You Be You Music Room and Outschool's guidelines.

Kaston has been a professional musician for nearly 15 years. He has been a long-term volunteer at You Be You Music Room since its inception and is thrilled to share is expertise with students as an official staff member!
Kaston Guffey is a guitarist, songwriter, and singer currently based in Nashville TN.
He is also co-founder and songwriter for the group "My Politic", where he has been performing and touring for over a decade. Nashville Scene compares his writing to that of songwriting legend John Prine.
His writing has received many accolades over the years, including placement in a major television network series, and features in American Songwriter.
Having begun writing at a young age, he values the creative expression possible in youth, and understands the power of musical mentorship.
